First we design on the computer or by hand and create the scarf on tissue paper. The black lines drawn will be the lines waxed on the silk (the resist lines).
The charmeuse silk is placed on top of the tissue drawing and traced. These pencil lines are the guides to where the wax will be placed. In Indonesian the lines of wax is called chanting this technique is unique to Java.
After we wax (chanting) the silk, it is carefully stretched onto wooden frames in preparation for paint.
The painting time varies on the amount of color combinations needed. The pigments are powder base and each color needs to be mixed separately. The paint must dry a full day.
Once the silk is dry then it is hung and brushed with a sealer which then has to hang and dry again.
Finally, the silk is boiled to remove wax and residue. After washing the edges are hand rolled and sewn.
A luxurious and durable silk scarf can be hand made in a style and design just for you. We can create any design on silk for you as a gift, as wedding thank you's, as bridemaid memories and keepsakes.
